Merry Christmas and Don’t Mind the Mess

Sorry for the mess. I have been redesigning the site, and a couple of unforeseen events caused me to focus on other items mid stream. I hate it when that happens.

It’s that time of year again. A time for rushing around to close out last minute tickets, a time to stress about what we’re buying (and not buying) our special someones, and a time relish those days of our childhood when all we had to worry about was that “Big Day”.

It’s with all of this that Dr. Wyf, and I have realized that we stress too much about this holiday. Maybe it’s the over commercialization of the season, maybe it’s the lack of resources, or maybe it’s just our own misplaced anxieties, but Christmas has become something more of a dread than a joy. I don’t think we are the only ones either.

In this time of overconnectedness, the need to show we care by buying the big ticket items, and the constant barrage of you’re not good enough if you don’t get them what they want we need to get back to what this time really means. The winter season is the close of the year. It’s a time for reflection as we look toward the future, and reflect on the past. During this time we wipe away all of the transgressions against us, and hold on to each others hand as we move into the next year.

So this year, my Christmas wish is a little boring, a little trite, but it’s what I want. I want all you to know love, and peace, and happiness. I want us all to be a little less selfish, a little more compassionate, a little more forgiving, and a lot more connected. I wish for all of us to realize that our actual face to face interactions mean a lot more than the strings of 140 characters.

I want there to be more meet ups and less tweet ups. I want us all to put away our phones when we converse with each other. I want us all to play more, volunteer more, and work less.

Most of all, I want you to take a moment and say thank you to those around you. You cannot,  could not, be the you you are if it weren’t for those around you.

So take care of yourselves. Have a Merry Christmas, or a Happy Solstice, or a Joyful Kwanzaa. Whatever you chose to celebrate, celebrate it with every essence of your being and just enjoy it.

And if you feel so inclined, please consider a small donation to my crowdsource Bring Fez Punk to IndyPopCon.

Merry Christmas!
